Making a Painting

The last few years have really become a celebration of colour and movement as my work has evolved towards the abstract and molten.

When creating a painting I deliberately direct the composition as much as I can when the canvas is wet and then work the images when they are dry with layers of washes and line details. This is both to create depth and bring elements forward, strengthening the composition and play of colour of a piece.

Every painting is original and unique. The abstracts are also an “event” in that they “happen” at a certain moment and will never occur exactly in that way again.

Though you can try to direct you can never really control this type of art. I just love the surprise of what spontaneously happens in the painting process.

Often the magic is just waiting to jump out at you.
